A significant step has been taken to broaden the availability of a multi-cancer early detection test. GRAIL, a healthcare company focused on early cancer detection, has successfully integrated its Galleri test into the widely-used Epic electronic health record platform.
This integration allows healthcare providers using Epic’s software to seamlessly order the Galleri test within their existing clinical workflow. The Galleri test is a blood test designed to detect a shared signal from more than 50 types of cancer, many of which lack recommended screening options today. By identifying cancers at earlier stages, the goal is to improve treatment outcomes and survival rates.
The move into the Epic ecosystem, which is utilized by a vast network of hospitals and clinics across the United States, is intended to streamline access for physicians and their patients. It reduces administrative hurdles by embedding the test option directly into the tools doctors already use daily. This development represents a pivotal advancement in making innovative early detection tools a more routine part of patient care, potentially transforming the landscape of cancer screening. The company emphasizes that the Galleri test is intended to complement, not replace, other recommended cancer screenings.
