Tens of thousands of medicated wipes sold exclusively at CVS pharmacies have been recalled due to a potential child safety hazard. The recall, announced by the manufacturer, involves the "CVS Health Medicated Wipes" in a 45-count container. The products were distributed to CVS stores nationwide and also sold online.
The issue stems from the packaging. The wipes are not child-resistant, which violates federal safety standards. According to the Consumer Product Safety Commission, the lack of a proper child-resistant closure creates a risk of poisoning if a young child gains access to the wipes and ingests them. The wipes contain benzalkonium chloride, an antiseptic that can be toxic if swallowed in large amounts.
No injuries or incidents have been reported so far. However, the recall is a precautionary measure. Consumers who purchased the wipes are urged to stop using them immediately and keep them out of the reach of children. The company is offering a full refund or a replacement product. Customers can return the wipes to any CVS store or contact the manufacturer for instructions on how to dispose of them safely. The recall affects about 27,000 units sold between June and November of last year.
