Musab Balbale Departs CVS Health

Musab Balbale has stepped down from his role as chief merchandising officer at CVS Health, ending a four-year tenure with the company. His departure was confirmed internally this week, with Zach Dennett taking over as interim leader of the merchandising division.

Balbale joined CVS in 2020, overseeing the retailer's product selection, pricing strategy, and vendor relationships. During his time there, he helped guide the company through a shifting retail landscape, including the expansion of health-focused store formats and the integration of digital shopping tools. His exit comes at a time when CVS is restructuring parts of its business to focus more on healthcare services and cost efficiency.

Dennett, a CVS veteran, will step in to manage day-to-day merchandising operations while the company searches for a permanent replacement. He previously served as vice president of merchandising and has deep experience in the company's front-store categories.

CVS did not provide specific reasons for Balbale's departure, but such moves are not unusual during corporate reorganizations. The company continues to face pressure from rising operational costs and changing consumer habits, which have pushed it to rethink how it stocks shelves and engages with shoppers.

Balbale has not announced his next move. Before CVS, he held leadership roles at Walmart and other major retailers.
