French bulldogs top U.S. popularity list, but vet warns of serious health risks

French bulldogs have officially become the most popular dog breed in the United States, according to recent rankings. The compact, bat-eared dogs have surged past long-time favorites like Labrador retrievers and golden retrievers, winning over owners with their small size, low exercise needs, and distinctive wrinkled faces. The French bulldog's flat face and compressed airway structure, a trait known as brachycephaly, can lead to severe breathing difficulties.
