Members of the University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences’ Northwest Regional Campus and the Institute for Community Health Innovation traveled to the Republic of the Marshall Islands (RMI) this month to conduct essential training for community health workers (CHWs) and medical professionals. The focus of the training was on diabetes management, emphasizing the latest curriculum developments and advancements in pharmaceutical treatments.
The initiative aims to enhance the capabilities of local health care providers in addressing the growing diabetes epidemic in the region. Participants learned about effective strategies for diabetes prevention, treatment options, and patient education techniques. The training also included discussions on the importance of culturally relevant practices in managing chronic diseases within the Marshallese community.
The collaboration highlights UAMS's commitment to improving health outcomes in underserved areas and fostering partnerships that empower local health care systems. This effort marks a significant step toward combating diabetes and promoting overall health in the Marshall Islands.
