The National Family Planning and Reproductive Health Association, along with its member the Family Health Council of Central Pennsylvania, has filed a lawsuit against the Trump administration. The legal action targets Robert F. Kennedy Jr. and other officials, aiming to protect the Title X family planning program from what the plaintiffs describe as political interference.
Title X is the only federal program in the United States dedicated specifically to family planning services. It has operated for more than 55 years, providing access to effective contraceptive methods, cancer screenings, testing and treatment for sexually transmitted infections, and other preventive health services. The program gives priority to patients with low incomes.
The lawsuit argues that recent administrative actions threaten the program's integrity and its ability to serve millions of patients. The plaintiffs claim the administration is attempting to impose restrictions that would undermine the medical independence of providers and limit patient access to comprehensive care.
Family planning clinics across the country rely on Title X funding to offer services at reduced or no cost. Supporters of the program say it is essential for public health, particularly in rural and underserved areas where access to reproductive healthcare is already limited. The case is expected to draw significant attention as it moves through the courts.
