FARMINGTON - The OB/GYN department at UConn Health got an unexpected boost this week as part of the hospital's Healthcare Week festivities. WFSB made a surprise visit to the team, bringing recognition and appreciation for their work in women's health.
The celebration highlighted the dedication of doctors, nurses, and support staff who handle everything from routine checkups to high-risk pregnancies. Healthcare Week is an annual event meant to honor medical professionals across all departments, but this year the OB/GYN unit received special attention.
Staff members were visibly moved by the gesture. Many said they rarely get public acknowledgment for the long hours and emotional demands of their jobs. One nurse noted that delivering babies and supporting families through difficult diagnoses requires both skill and compassion.
The surprise event included small gifts, words of thanks, and a moment for the team to pause from their busy schedules. Hospital administrators also spoke about the importance of recognizing frontline workers who often put patient care before their own needs.
For the OB/GYN team, the recognition came at a fitting time. Healthcare Week serves as a reminder that behind every medical statistic are real people working tirelessly. The department continues to provide essential services to the community, and this surprise celebration gave them a chance to feel valued.
UConn Health plans to continue similar recognitions throughout the week for other departments as well.
